Fort Wright is positioned at 39 3 4 N 84 32 6 W (39.051011, -84.535042). According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 3.5 square miles (9.1 km2) of which 3.5 square miles (9.1 km2) is territory and 0.29% is water.

The region that is now Fort Wright was the site of one of the American Civil War fortifications assembled for the Defense of Cincinnati.

The city, incorporated in 1941, was titled for Major General Horatio Gouverneur Wright, a Union Army engineer. There were 2,430 homeholds of which 25.9% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 52.8% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female homeholder with no husband present, and 35.4% were non-families.

The median homehold income was $52,394, and the median family income was $62,464.
